Our Yurt Trip
Glamping At A.J. Jolly Campground!
I have been on a camping and hiking kick for the last few months but been a bit nervous because two of my four kids are extremely high maintenance. We have camped in a camper before but it was a little more of an elaborate set up then what I have been dreaming about. A last minute opportunity arose for us to get our feet wet and GLAMP in a Yurt at A.J. Jolly Campground!
My high maintenance children, Novella and Halo, did a little bit of whining but they did far better than I expected. I would even go as far to say all FOUR of the kids had a great time!
We went to A.J. Jolly Campground in Alexandria Ky. They have tons of campsites and two Yurts. We got Yurt 1 and My parents were in Yurt 2.
We immediately fell in love with the Yurts; they were so cute and well maintained. I actually had to bribe the kids out of them because they were so excited to be in them.
We found a hiking trail close to the Yurts and followed the path which led us down to the lake. It was more difficult then the paved paths we have been practicing on but the kids powered through even in the extreme heat.
The reward was worth it. We popped out at the perfect spot to sit by the lake in some shade and watch the kayakers go by.
Grandpa even worked on teaching the kids how to skip rocks. While they didn’t quite master the art of skipping rocks they did manage not to hit each other with rocks, so I will consider it a moderate success.
Everywhere we go a pirate seems to follow, dropping his treasure of pennies and quarters. He showed up even at the campground! This time he dropped his treasure next to grandpa’s Yurt!
We had a feast of Hot Dogs and Mac and Cheese. Can you guess which kids asked for just a hot dog bun with ketchup? (no hotdog).
Of course it’s not camping without smores!
Here is to hoping this is just the first of many camping trips to come! You can check out our video below, the kids love taking videos and talking to their “friends”!
