Louisville Family Trip

Louisville Family Trip

Our Louisville Family Trip

Last weekend we spent a few days down in Louisville exploring some new scenery. We added some extra fun by letting Grandma and Grandpa Cappel tag along. The kids had never been to Louisville and I hadn’t been in over 10 years so it was really great to have a Louisville Trip together.

The hotel we stayed at for this trip was The Drury Inn & Suites Louisville East the rooms were gorgeous and the kids loved bouncing around on the beds. My favorite part of the Hotel was the free buffet style “Kickback” dinners every night. A lot of hotels offer free breakfast (which the Drury Inn also includes) but I have never been to a hotel that offered a free dinner as well. We saved a ton of money not having to dine out for seven every night. Not to mention the selection at the buffet was impressive, and this comes from a very picky eater.

Day One: Louisville Bats Game

Day one of our trip we went downtown to catch a Louisville Bats game! I have no idea if they won or lost but we had a great time! The Bats stadium is super family friendly and they have a very nice, very large playground! The kids have been begging for new baseball hats and Grandpa hooked them up and made their day.

Day Two: Riverfront Park

The next day we headed to the Waterfront Park. The Color Run 5k was going on so we crashed the end of their party. Then we headed over to the Splash Pad to cool off. The Splash Pad was nice and it was right next to two different playgrounds which kept it entertaining for hours. In the afternoon we drove down the road for about three minutes to the Botanical Gardens. The gardens are gorgeous and have a few different fountains as well as a three tier waterfall. The Waterfront Park, Splash Pad, Botanical Gardens and Parking are completely free. Which gave us a totally free day of fun!

Day Three: Kentucky Science Center

Day Three we decided to check out the Kentucky Science Center! The science center is filled with cool things for kids to explore. Almost everything is interactive and makes learning engaging for children. There are the floors filled with different exhibits and the fourth floor is a movie theater. The kids favorite part was the water table. But every single part of it was perfect.

The Kentucky Science also has a Community Access Membership which makes membership free for those who receive SNAP/WIC. All you have to do is fill out the form and bring your EBT or WIC card and ID and you can get in for free.

Day Four: Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay

The kids favorite part of the trip was pretty much all of day four, Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay. The good parts of Kentucky Kingdom was they had a pretty decent sized section for pre-k, kindergarten aged kids. We went on a Monday and there were pretty much no lines and they have a wave pool which the kids love. The bad parts were, aside from the rides for small kids, the kids weren’t tall enough to ride much roller coaster or water slide wise. They had fun regardless though.

We used our Get Out Passes to get into the park. If you don’t know what a Get Out Pass is I highly recommend checking it out. For one price you get a year pass and it gives you access to tons of local venues like amusement parks or fun centers or bowling, rock climbing, paintballing and more. The price I paid for a Get Out Pass was less than a General Admission Ticket to Kentucky Kingdom, and I still have a whole year of other venues we can visit using the pass. The passes are also very frequently 50% off especially around a Holiday. If you decide to buy a Get Out Pass use my referral code Cappel1 🙂

Day Five: Exploring Louisville

Louisville has quite a few hidden secret spots I was glad we discovered in our exploration of the city. The first was the waterfall at Papa John’s Head Quarters. It is up there with one of the prettiest waterfalls I’ve seen. If you ever want to go see it when you pull in the front parking lot of Papa John’s HQ it is almost immediately to the left side. Opposite side of the fountain and lake.

The second was the St. James Court fountain. St. James Court is a super quiet street and they have this beautiful fountain tucked away. If you love fountains or cool pieces of history definitely check out the fountain!

We wrapped up the trip by going to the splash pad at Broad Run Park. There were tons of trails to explore both paved and non paved. The park was very beautiful and we are definitely going to return when we have more time.
